ReardonSmith project At Sloane wins twice at AHEAD Europe 2024 Awards
We are thrilled to announce that At Sloane was a winner in two categories at the Sleeper AHEAD Europe 2024 awards!
Winning in both the ‘Restaurant’ and ‘Bar, Club or Lounge’ categories, these awards cap off 9 years of supreme effort and dedication from everyone involved and serve as recognition of the skilled efforts and ability of both the consultant team as a whole and ReardonSmith’s in house team, our congratulations and thanks go to them in particular.
The judges had this to say about project:
Bar, Club or Lounge.
At Sloane is London’s newest discreet hotel, offering the eclecticism of an historic private residence in Chelsea by ReardonSmith Architects espoused with elegant French influences from designer Graf Paris. Playful secret doorways reveal spaces like a series of jewel boxes, with layered design details creating an elevated experience within the Victorian building. Tucked away in the hotel’s lower level, the speakeasy-inspired bar is characterised by sumptuous velvet furnishings, dark timber panelling and ornate patterned tiles, illuminated by the soft glow of gold sconces and candlelight. Memorable moments include bespoke stained-glass windows, ornate patterned tiles, repurposed theatre chairs and coffered ceilings clad in traditionally embossed wallpaper.
“Exceptional attention to detail,” commended the panel, with particular praise for the design’s “bold playfulness, intertwined with a respect for both location and history.”
Restaurant
Perched atop the hotel with access via a traditional lift, the 46-cover restaurant overlooks views of Chelsea, with panoramic vistas enjoyed from the snug cupola by ReardonSmith Architects. Drawing inspiration from The Peacock Room — an exemplar of Anglo-Japanese style dating back to 1877 — the restaurant blends Japonisme, English Arts and Crafts and Parisian chic, whilst continuing the design symmetry established throughout the hotel. An eclectic mix of leaded windows with stained-glass inlays, reproductions of Edward William Godwin chairs and antique Asian vases have been curated by Graf Paris to resemble the home of an eccentric collector, creating an enchanting experience of discovery for guests.
“Refined maximalism with exquisite detailing”, commented one judge, with another commending the design as “surprisingly fresh and bright considering its ample detail and complexity, but it comes together as a total composition.” “A well-executed feast for the eyes.”
