ReardonSmith is acting as Executive Architect in the conversion of the former American Embassy in London’s Grosvenor Square into a Rosewood Hotel. The practice is responsible for leading the project until completion and the building’s occupation by the operator. This follows a period of some three years during which time we were the Hotel Specialist Architect, working in close collaboration with Design Architect, David Chipperfield, and the professional team to help deliver the hotel’s operational plan for the owner, Qatari Diar.

The current plan is to create a 137-guestroom hotel with a number of restaurants & bars, a luxury spa, a ballroom and retail. The significant architectural characteristics of the Grade ll listed Eero Saarinen masterpiece, completed in 1960, will be retained and enhanced, and the removal of the security barriers on Grosvenor Square will provide an opportunity to achieve vibrant and dramatically transformed public realm in the heart of London’s Mayfair.
